About the Downbeats

In 1972 the Downbeats were formed from an idea of Gregg A. Downs after seeing a local performance of "Up With People". Their first show in 1973 was directed by
Allen L. Downs, then a vocal music instructor at the University of Minnesota, Duluth, and accompanied by by his wife, Lois M. Downs.

The Downbeats are now directed by Pam J. Jacobson and accompanied by Beth Esselstrom, both of Duluth. Dave A. Dahl of Duluth runs the group's full sound and lighting equipment. This enables the group to travel for functions outside the Duluth area.

Combined, the existing Downbeats have well over 400 years of music experience. They have appeared on television and have sung live on radio. Their first album "Overture" also has had play on radio and television. We hope you enjoy our Easy-Listening style of music on our CD "Singing From The Heart".
